Overview

Kirton McConkie has a full-service adoption practice that provides assistance with routine adoptions to trials and appeals in complex contested adoptions. Our adoption and family law attorneys have significant experience and are involved in hundreds of adoptions per year.

Although Utah law does not allow attorneys to provide matching services, firm attorneys represent and advise adoption agencies, adoptive families, and birth parents.

Our attorneys serve a broad population of clients under many circumstances, including:

  • Birth parent representation and relinquishment
  • Adoption agency representation, licensing, and general counsel
  • Contested adoptions
  • Interstate adoptions
  • International adoptions
  • Independent direct placement
  • Indian Child Welfare Act adoptions
  • Stepparent adoptions
  • Grandparent and other relative adoptions
  • Special needs adoptions
  • Foster care adoptions
  • Disrupted adoptions
  • Adult adoptions
  • Surrogacy births
  • Coordination with parties involved (birth family, agency, court, and adoptive family)
  • Structure of placements based on state laws
