Overview
Daniel Young is a shareholder and member of the firm’s International section. Mr. Young has experience in a broad range of legal areas. For over 15 years, he has represented clients before all levels of administrative agencies and courts, taking cases through pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial, and appeal.
Mr. Young currently focuses his practice on international issues involving trade, export controls, international disputes, intellectual property, contracts, artificial intelligence, and data privacy. He represents individuals and entities in Enforce and Protect Act (EAPA) investigations, Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Program claims and appeals, and navigating various import and export controls, sanctions, and compliance. Mr. Young’s litigation experience assists clients in resolving international disputes through litigation or alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration. He represents clients utilizing emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, and helps clients comply with evolving data privacy regulations. He has been recognized by Utah Business as a Legal Elite.
While Mr. Young has represented clients with legal needs throughout the world, Mr. Young has a special connection with Japan, having lived, studied, and worked there. He has had leadership positions, including co-chair, in the Northeast Asia, Japan & Korea Committee for the American Bar Association (ABA) International Law section. He is also the liaison between the ABA and the Japan Federation of Bar Associations (JFBA) and has assisted the JFBA for over 15 years by editing and translating statements and opinions of the JFBA, assisting JFBA members with international study, and researching human rights treaties. Mr. Young has been able to practically use that experience to testify as an expert witness on Japanese law in federal courts, including the Southern District of New York, in international child abduction cases under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.
Mr. Young is active in the community having served on boards for the Salt Lake Choral Artists, the University of Utah Young Alumni Board, and establishing the University of Utah Salt Lake City Alumni Club. He was an inaugural member of the Utah Bar Leadership Academy and served as a member of the Utah State Bar Disaster Legal Response Committee.
