In addition to our expertise in treaties on international trade agreements and sales, Kirton McConkie’s trade team guides clients through Customs and Border Protection’s tariff process and is currently representing clients before the U.S. Court of International Trade about refunds of tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Our international tax attorneys also support clients in identifying applicable taxes for international transactions, including the application of tax treaties. We actively assist clients with their planning and structuring to maximize the efficient use of foreign tax credits, tax deferrals, and the benefits of certain entity classifications, including the use of blocker entities, IC-DICS and tiered structuring under the “check-the-box” regulations.
