Kira Dale
Kira Dale is a member of the firm’s Litigation section, where her practice focuses on commercial litigation, mediation, and artificial intelligence (AI) compliance counseling. Drawing on more than 25 years of experience as a litigator, judicial officer, and dispute resolution professional, she helps clients navigate complex legal issues with practical judgment, thoughtful strategy, and clear communication.
Kira represents businesses and individuals in complex commercial disputes, business ownership conflicts, and other high-stakes litigation matters in state and federal courts. Licensed in both Idaho and Utah, she develops practical litigation strategies tailored to each client’s objectives while maintaining a steady focus on efficient and effective resolution.
As a mediator, Kira draws on her extensive litigation background and judicial experience to help parties resolve difficult disputes. She is known for fostering a respectful, collaborative process, listening carefully to each party’s perspective, and helping participants reach practical, durable solutions.
Kira also advises organizations on the legal, privacy, governance, and risk management issues associated with AI and automated decision-making technologies. She works with clients to evaluate AI use cases, understand evolving legal and regulatory obligations, develop governance frameworks, and responsibly implement AI.
Before joining Kirton McConkie, Kira served as a magistrate judge in Ada County, Idaho, where she presided over a general criminal docket and the Ada County Domestic Violence Court. She also contributed to statewide judicial initiatives as a member of the Idaho Supreme Court Criminal Jury Instructions Committee and as a 2023 Judicial Engagement Network Fellow, helping to develop and expand batterers intervention programming, including options specific to the unique challenges present within New American communities.
Prior to her judicial service, Kira spent many years practicing law in the public and private sectors. She served as a career law clerk and staff attorney to six judges of the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho, developing substantial experience in civil rights litigation, constitutional law, and federal procedure. She later became a litigation partner at Hepworth, Janis and Kluksdal, where her practice included complex civil litigation, product liability, medical malpractice, and appellate matters.
Kira earned her JD from the University of Utah, graduating Order of the Coif and receiving a certificate in natural resources and environmental law. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from Duke University, where she competed on the varsity swim team.
An active member of the legal community, Kira has served on numerous professional boards, mentored new attorneys, and taught trial advocacy as an adjunct professor at the University of Idaho College of Law. Outside of her practice, she enjoys trail running and gardening.
